Critical Care Transport

Rockingham Ambulance provides Critical Care Transport (CCT) services to any facility in Southern New Hampshire. We regularly transport cardiac patients with Heparin and Nitroglycerin drips under the sole care of our Paramedics.

The Critical Care Transport program was designed to meet the needs of an ever changing health care industry. Just three years ago it was common for a registered nurse to accompany a cardiac patient on an inter-facility transfer. With the overall reduction of staffing thatmany health care faciilties have seen, hospitals can no longer spare nursing staff while they go on ambulance transfers.

Seeing the changing needs of our customers, Rockingham Ambulance responded by implementing our Critical Care Transport program. One of the first steps was to provide the equipment needed. This equipment included electrical inverters for our transfer ambulances, and 3 channel IV Pumps, cellular phones and 12 lead EKG/Defibrillators.

The second step was to train our Paramedics to perform new skills during transports. The intial training offered to our Paramedics was to certify them to care for patients on Heparin and Nitroglycerin drips during interfacility transfers without a nurse present. The regional medical facilities have been very supportive of this program. Rockingham now transports hundereds of cardiac patients under the primary care of our Paramedics every year.

Rockingham Ambulance is currently paying tuition reimbursement for our Paramedics who wish to attend a CCT-Paramedic certification program. We are also working closely with area medical facilities to expand our CCT capabilities even further.
