Rockingham Ambulance employees Sylvia Riley, EMT-Intermediate, and David Lacaillade,
Paramedic, recently honored by the American Ambulance Association for being
a 2000 "Star of Life"

May 24, 2000 - The American Ambulance Association (AAA) recently held its annual "Stars of Life" tribute on May 9, 2000 in Washington, DC. The "Stars" at this annual event were 97 paramedics, EMT's, dispatchers and other ambulance service personnel - including EMT Intermediate Sylvia Riley and Paramedic David Lacaillade - from 36 states who were recognized for their bravery, commitment and dedication to their life saving profession and the communities they serve.
Beginning with a group photo taken of the "Stars" in uniform on the reflecting pool steps on the west side of the U.S. Capital building, the "Stars" then attended a role playing session in the Rayburn House Office Building on how to meet and talk with their Members of Congress. Following that, Riley and Lacaillade met with NH Congressman Charles Bass and John Sununu in their Capital Hill offices to discuss industry issues. The day concluded with a dinner gala and awards ceremony held at the Marriott Metro Center to honor the American Ambulance Association's "Millennium Stars of Life."
These "Stars" - the men and women who embody the dedicated spirit and professional ideals of the emergency medical services (EMS) profession - were recognized and honored by their peers, the AAA, Members of Congress, representatives from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) and various other organizations involved with EMS. Together, they applauded the "Stars" for their heroic actions, exemplary performances and community involvement in the past year.
Riley and Lacaillade were selected as "Stars" by their peers for their continuous commitment to quality and excellent patient care. Riley works at Rockingham's Manchester station as an EMT-Intermediate and Lacaillade is the Education and Training Coordinator for the company.
The week of May 14-20 was "National Emergency Medical Services Week" which promotes nationwide awareness of Emergency Medical Services. The 2000 National EMS Week theme of New Century, New Hope, celebrates the contributions of EMS providers throughout the country, reaching out to potential recruits and stressing the importance of strong public support for the EMS system in their community.
