Rockingham Ambulance Medics Begin 12 Lead Data Transmissions
January 6, 2003 - Rockingham's Manchester EMS crews are now transmitting 12-lead EKG information directly to local emergency departments from the patient's side. By using wireless technology, the time to life saving cardiac intervention is greatly reduced. The program is done in conjunction with early cardiac intervention teams at the two Manchester hospitals and is made possible through the combined efforts of Medtronic Physio-Control, Nextel Wireless Communications and Rockingham Ambulance.
The program has been credited with saving the lives of two Manchester EMS patients. In both cases, the patients were sent directly to the Cardiac Catheter Lab upon arrival at the hospital where teams were able to resolve the heart attack and prevent cardiac death. Receiving the EKG while the paramedics were still treating and transporting the patients gave the hospital teams the time they needed to prepare for their arrival.
